ANIMA is built on curiosity, collaboration and community.

We are an independent documentary studio and creative collective making cinematic nonfiction in all its forms, from short documentaries and experimental films to ambitious feature-length work.

Everything starts with curiosity. A person, a place, an idea, a question , something that makes us want to know more. We follow that curiosity and see where it takes us.

Collaboration is at the heart of ANIMA. Through OPEN DOOR, we create opportunities for people to connect one-to-one with experienced professionals, share ideas, ask questions and where possible, gain hands-on experience on real productions or bring short documentary ideas of their own to life.

But making films is only part of it. The way we discover and consume stories has changed, and documentary has to think differently about how it reaches audiences.

We believe in ambitious, cinematic long-form filmmaking but we also believe a story can live in many forms. A feature can spark a short film, a conversation, a podcast, an exhibition or a piece of social content, each creating a different way for someone to discover and engage with the story.

We call this expanding the conversation — using every format available to us to take documentary further, build audiences around our work and ultimately, bring more people back to the films themselves. People discover stories differently now. Let's give them more ways to discover ours.
